  2. Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso (World Heavyweight Championship)
  3. Bayley vs. Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton (WWE Women’s Championship)

WWE Undisputed Championship match: Cody Rhodes (c.) vs. A.J. Styles

The American Nightmare defends the Undisputed WWE Title for the first time against The Phenomenal One. Backlash France streams live today at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on Peacock in the United States and on WWE Network everywhere else.

When A.J. Styles entered first for the main event bout, the Lyon audience had yet another conflicting reaction. Styles can perform so well in all areas that it will be difficult for him to ever receive a lot of negative feedback from the crowd, even if he is a heel like he did in this bout.

As it has been for over two years, the entire audience cheered Cody Rhodes’ entrance song, “Kingdom.” If it wasn’t already evident, Rhodes is the biggest star on the WWE roster, having made his debut at WrestleMania 40 and now during this entrance. The sold-out Lyon audience kept singing after the music ended.

Since there was still an hour on this PLE and it was just 12:10 pm PST, there were a number of ads prior to the main event. See Full Post & Video on X.Com

The fans went into a complete frenzy when Cody Rhodes kicked out at one and AJ Styles nailed a Burning Hammer. It’s the first place I can remember seeing something similar in a WWE ring. On a Cody Cutter to AJ, Rhodes overcorrected, but it looked great. Rhodes won the match with a Cross Rhodes after that.

WWE Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso (World Heavyweight Championship)

World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest’s confrontation with his Backlash challenger Jey Uso gets interpreted by The Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh. Catch WWE action on Peacock, WWE Network, FOX, USA Network, Sony India and more.

Uso’s match at WrestleMania against his brother was disappointing, but we can forget all about that after his stellar performance against Damian Priest at Backlash. Uso and Priest put on a main event-worthy match and  because of the interference from the Judgment Day it seems as if the story between these two isn’t over. The big takeaway here is the continued friction between Priest and the other members of the Judgment Day.

There’s no shortage of challengers for Priest moving forward, but Uso should certainly remain in the mix.

WWE Women’s Championship: Bayley vs. Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton

Before they meet for the WWE Women’s Title, Bayley, Naomi and Tiffany Stratton all look to make a final statement at the WWE Backlash France Kickoff. Catch WWE action on Peacock, WWE Network, FOX, USA Network, Sony India and more.

Bayley, Naomi and Tiffany Stratton prepare for battle: WWE Backlash France Kickoff, May 3, 2024. Winners: Bayley, Naomi and Tiffany Stratton

Though she didn’t strike Naomi with a finishing, Bayley prevailed in a close match, earning a pin. Stratton didn’t take the pin, but she was still a threat in the women’s category and showed some great moments at times. All three of the participating women’s abilities were well-represented in this match. Bayley’s dominance should continue, and Stratton is a future Money in the Bank champion, so a singles show featuring her is probably in the works.

There was no thrilling finale to the match. In the end, Bayley managed to outwit Naomi and secure a three-count by countering a pinning combination. To close the contest, The Glow embraced The Role Model and joined her in celebration.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: Asuka and Kairi Sane vs. Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair

In a bout that was more intense and fierce than anyone could have predicted, the Kabuki Warriors lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill. Losers: The Kabuki Warriors

In the WWE, the finest women’s tag team is Asuka and Kairi Sane. They have demonstrated their ability to play well against teams of any background or style, and they have excellent presence and presentation, so it’s safe to say that nobody anticipated them to storm into Lyon and win the crowns.

Bianca and Jade are going to win the belts. They are going to have a good little run. Then something is going to cause turmoil and make them split and then that’s when we are going to have Bianca vs Jade. WWE 2024 Backlash France

Street Fight: Randy Orton and Kevin Owens vs. Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga

Tanga Loa attacked Randy Orton and Kevin Owens to help his brother, Tama Tonga, and Solo Sikoa win a wild and chaotic Street Fight at the top of the Backlash card. Result: Sikoa and Tonga defeated Orton and Owens

As Kevin Owens seems to clinch victory with a earth-shattering Brainbuster, Tanga Loa makes his WWE debut in an effort to save Solo Sikoa & Tama Tanga from defeat. Catch WWE action on Peacock, WWE Network, FOX, USA Network, Sony India and more on WWE 2024 Backlash France.

Well done for turning this bout into a street brawl, which allowed The Bloodline to unleash all of their ferocity and prevented Tanga Loa’s unexpected entrance from disqualifying her. Now that the Bloodline tale is moving in a more violent path, Paul Heyman was alarmed. This was brought to light later that evening, just before Jey Uso’s bout.

To those who don’t know, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa are brothers who formed a Tag Team known as The Guerrillas of Destiny (G.O.D.) in NJPW during their time in Bullet Club, where they are record setting 7x IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. Tama Tonga was one of the 4 founding members of Bullet Club, alongside OG leader Prince Devitt (Finn Bálor), Karl Anderson (Tama’s trainer) and Bad Luck Fale (Tama’s cousin), and Tanga Loa joined a few years down the road.
